On February 17, 1998, 19-year-old Donald Murray died from carbon monoxide poisoning while attempting to rescue his father who had succumbed to exhaust fumes in Saanich, British Columbia. When Donald returned home midafternoon from visiting a friend, he became aware of the smell of gas exhaust. He immediately rushed to the garage and discovered his father collapsed in the front seat of his vehicle. Donald attempted to remove him from the car but he too was overcome by the fumes and collapsed to the floor. The bodies of father and son were discovered one hour later by Donald's mother.
