Early on the morning of May 30, 1993, in Chauvin, Alberta, Mr. Farr saved a teenage boy from a burning mobile home. Seeing the fire while on his way to work, Mr. Farr ran inside to see if anyone was in danger. On hearing a cry for help he searched through thick black smoke to try to reach the victim. Forced out twice for fresh air, he managed, on his third attempt, to find the disoriented boy and carry him outside. Learning that the boy`s mother was still inside, Mr. Farr re-entered, but was flung outside by an explosion. He tried once more to enter but, by this time, flames were everywhere and the heat, unbearable. Unfortunately, the woman did not survive.
