On 27 October 1975, William O'Neill rescued a man from a truck which had caught fire following a highway accident near Brampton, Ontario. Mr. O'Neill, who had been behind the truck on the road, stopped and found the victim lying unconscious on the floor of the cab. While he was pulling the victim out, an explosion threw him to the ground. Undeterred he found a fire extinguisher and sprayed the flames. By now other motorists were on the scene, and with their assistance Mr. O'Neill was finally able to remove the injured driver.
