Fred Robillard, M.B., Ettyville, Ontario
Medal of Bravery
Fred Robillard saved an eighty-five year-old invalid and his seventy-three year-old wife from a fire which destroyed their wood-frame home in Ettyville on September 19, 1974. Mr. Robillard noticed the flames when driving by the residence and had to use force to gain entry into the house. Investigating inside, he found the man sitting on a bed, dazed and coughing from the toxic smoke. Without a moment's hesitation, he carried the elderly victim to safety and then returned to search for the woman. Carefully proceeding through the darkened interior, he discovered her in the kitchen and together they inched their way back through the dense smoke to the front entrance. No sooner had they made their exit that an explosion blasted through the building and within minutes, the structure was engulfed in flames.
