Medal of Bravery
In the early hours of 22 August 1980, Nick Mallis and George Peachey saved a young woman from fatal burns. While travelling on the highway near Dartmouth, Mr. Peachey arrived at the scene of an accident in which a car had struck a utility pole and caught fire. Shortly afterwards Mr. Mallis stopped to offer assistance. Through the broken windshield they saw the unconscious driver, pinned under the dashboard. In spite of the heat and dense smoke, they entered the car from the right-rear door. Mr. Mallis broke down the front seat and untangled the victim's left foot from the twisted, burning metal. Mr. Peachey then seized the injured woman under the arms, pulled her from the seat and carried her to safety moments before the car was completely consumed.
