Medal of Bravery
Early on the evening of 10 January 1983, James Nolan and Douglas MacKenzie jumped onto the subway track to rescue an inebriated man who had fallen off the platform at the Wellesley Station. While waiting on the platform, Mr. MacKenzie saw the man stagger along the edge and fall onto the track bed, hitting his head on the rail. Without a moment's hesitation, he jumped down and tried to lift him. A train was heard coming in the tunnel as Mr. Nolan came to help. Despite the risk of electrocution by accidentally touching the rail carrying high-voltage current, Messrs. MacKenzie and Nolan hoisted the man onto the platform shortly before the train arrived.
