Frank R. Noble, S.C. (posthumous)
Star of courage
The late Frank R. Noble was engaged as a technical adviser during the construction of an Alloy Steel Plant for the Hindustan Steel Limited, Durgapur, West Bengal, India. On the morning of November 10, 1967 an explosion occurred in the plant and the ensuing fire was fed by escaping oxygen from a recently installed pipeline. Seeing other workers collapsing under the blast of heat and flames, it is evident that Frank Noble who might have escaped from the disaster area, chose instead to risk his life in an attempt to turn off the control valve on the oxygen pipeline. As a result, he sustained severe burns and died from his injuries two days later.
