Robert Alexander Nahrgang, M.B.
Medal of Bravery
In Kitchener, Ontario when fire destroyed a home on May 6, 1972, Robert Nahrgang was instrumental in saving the lives of three children. The fire which started in the kitchen spread quickly to the stairwell leading to the bedroom floor above where five children and their mother were located. When he became aware of the fire, M. Nahrgang, a next-door neighbour, rushed in and climbed the stairs. He carried one child down, returned and brought two others out. As the building filled with smoke and the heat grew in intensity, Mr. Nahrgang made his way to the rear of the house and shouted to the mother and the two remaining children to jump from the upstairs windows. The mother finally leaped from the second storey but the two children were lost.
