Jane Morrison saved a ninety-year-old man from a fire which destroyed his home at Carafraxa, Ontario, on 14 March 1979. Miss Morrison, a school bus driver, had seen smoke rising from the roof of the house and had gone to a back door. Unable to enter because of the smoke, she tried the front door. Finding it locked, she broke a window and opened the door. Then, moving through dense smoke, she found the victim and with great difficulty took him to safety. Both he and his rescuer were taken to hospital where he was treated for burns and she for cuts.
