On 4 December 1977 André, Rodolphe and Yves Laberge joined efforts to free the passengers of a car which had crashed into a tree and burst into flames near their home at Sainte-Martine, Quebec. The three men heard the crash, and André ran out partly clothed into the cold. He pulled a heavy man out of the driver's seat, and then a passenger from the rear seat. Rodolphe helped to drag them into a field. André then removed another from the front seat and extinguished his burning clothes. Yves and Rodolphe worked valiantly to remove a fourth trapped under the rear seat but were forced out by the heat. Only one of the four passengers survived.
