Corporal Theodore Joseph Miller, M.B.
Medal of Bravery
On July 3, 1972, Cpl Theodore Joseph Miller of CFB Comox, British Columbia, displayed great skill and courage in rescuing an injured mountain climber on Mount Slesse, British Columbia. The mountain climber who had sustained severe leg injuries from a fall was lying on a small ledge projecting from the almost vertical rock-face at the 7600 foot level on Mount Slesse. Cpl Miller, a member of the crew of a helicopter undertaking the rescue, was lowered by cable some 80 feet and the aircraft was manoeuvred as close as possible to the face of the cliff. To bridge the remaining distance, personnel of the helicopter created a pendulum motion and Cpl Miller was thus able to scramble onto the ledge. The injured man was secured to the cable and both were lifted into the aircraft.
