In the early hours of the morning of May 22, 1971, Kenneth Miller rescued a seven-year-old boy when fire broke out in the apartment where he lived. The young boy was alone when the fire started and he became confused and frightened. Kenneth Miller was wakened, learned that the boy was in grave danger and made his way into the victim's apartment, crawling on hands and knees. He located and brought the child out through dense smoke to the safety of the street just as firefighters arrived.
