Nineteen-year-old Judi Skinner swam to the rescue of a fifteen-year-old boy, who was thrown from his rowboat at Shuswap Lake on 3 June 1976. A wave had swamped the boat and thrown the youth overboard as he was reaching out for his fishing-rod. When Judi saw him floundering in the water, she removed her boots, dived from a wharf and swam some yards against a high wind and white caps. Persisting in spite of her exhaustion, she grasped the victim and brought him back to the wharf, where others helped them out of the water.
