Lewis Owen Skidmore, M.B.
Medal of Bravery
On April 21, 1969 a young boy who had been fishing off an old unused dam on the Nashwaak River near Marysville, New Brunswick, fell into the river and was swept around the end of the dam and downstream. Lewis Owen Skidmore saw the boy fall and ran to a point on the river bank, removed his boots and swam about 150 feet in the icy water to reach the boy who by this time was clinging to a submerged rock. Mr. Skidmore assisted him to climb onto another larger rock and the two remained there for the greater part of an hour while efforts were made to reach them by boat. Had it not been for the timely intervention of Lewis Skidmore the incident would likely have had a tragic outcome.
