Medal of Bravery
Jean Claude Savard and William Campbell were instrumental in rescuing four children when fire broke out in a Numainville family home in Abitibi Canyon, on January 22, 1972. When fire was discovered on the second floor, Jean Savard, going to investigate, entered the bedroom where the fire was centred, but was driven back by intense heat and smoke. Following him up the stairs, William Campbell pulled Mr. Savard away from the flames and rescued two of the children from an adjoining bedroom. Of the remaining four children, two were lost in the fire. Had it not been for the intervention of the two men, loss of life would undoubtedly have been greater.
