Fifteen-year-old Wendy Roy rescued her younger sister who had been gravely injured while water-skiing on Manitou Lake on August 30, 1973. The boat towing the skier went out of control and its two occupants were thrown to the stern out of reach of the controls. The boat circled around and the skier was struck by the rotating propeller. Wendy jumped at once into the water and released the victim who was trapped under the motor. She lifted her sister aboard and with extraordinary coolness restarted the motor and manoeuvred the boat back to shore. It was later ascertained that had it not been for Wendy's prompt and courageous action, the girl would have died of her injuries.
