On the afternoon of 5 May 1982, a D.N.D. employee at the Combat Training Centre, Robert Hartt of Upper Gagetown, New Brunswick, rescued a fellow co-worker from a car submerged in Swan Creek Lake, near Oromocto. Mr. Hartt arrived as two of the sinking car's three passengers escaped through the front window. He made his way to the vehicle and helped one to shore, then with bare hands broke a rear side window in an attempt to free the third. As the car slid beneath the surface, Mr. Hartt broke the rear window and crawled in, finding a man struggling at the side window. With effort, Mr. Hartt brought the victim to the surface and safety.
