On New Year's eve, 1993, Miss Harris pulled two friends from a burning car after an accident near Ridgetown, Ontario. A passenger in the vehicle, Miss Harris pulled one friend from the burning wreck and dragged her to safety in a nearby field. She then returned to help the unconscious driver, whose legs were covered in flames. With great difficulty, she managed to free the driver from the seat belt, pull her from the burning car and roll her on the ground to extinguish the flames. Miss Harris then dragged her friend over to the first girl in the field and, despite her own injuries, ran down the road for help. All three were taken to hospital for treatment.
