On July 21, 1972 truck driver Raymond Hamblin freed a man from the burning wreckage of his transport truck, following an accident near Parry Sound, Ontario. Coming out of a curve, the man lost control of his tractor-trailer and the vehicle crashed into a rock cut. The driver was pinned behind the steering wheel and the fire broke out. Raymond Hamblin came on the scene moments later, and seeing the situation, ran to the tractor and found the driver in a semi-conscious state, hanging half out of the side window. Reaching into the cab he succeeded in wrenching the steering wheel aside. Mr. Hamblin, at once, pulled the victim through the window and with the aid of another man carried him away from the fiercely burning wreckage. Clearly, the victim owes his life to the prompt and courageous action of Raymond Hamblin.
