Robert Gordon saved a young man from drowning in the Quyon River on 26 April 1976. The boy and two other youths were in a car which crashed through the guardrail of a bridge into the river. Mr. Gordon, who was working nearby, ran to the scene and found him trapped inside the partly submerged car. One companion had already disappeared and was drowned, while another had regained the shore. Mr. Gordon entered the icy water and pulled the victim out from a rear window and lifted him to the roof of the car; both were then helped onto the bridge by others.
