Eleven-year-old Steven Folk saved a boy of fourteen from falling over a forty-foot drop at Fort St. John on 10 April 1977. The youths had been hiking along a ledge of the cliff when they decided to explore for caves at the base. Steven was the first to go down the slope, but he lost his footing on the shale and slid several feet. When he tried to turn back the teenager also came tumbling down, headed for the cliff. With no concern for his own safety Steven reached out and caught his friend, thus breaking his fall. They both slid a few feet further to another ledge where they were able to stand fast until others came to their help.
