Without the slightest regard for her own life, on Sunday afternoon 21 February 1982, Jacqueline Poullet saved a four-year-old boy from drowning. While jogging near the Ottawa River, Miss Poullet heard cries for help. She waded in waist-deep snow as close as possible to the river's edge and saw a child struggling in the icy water, in imminent danger of drifting downstream. Though not a good swimmer she ventured on the thin ice, inching her way toward open water, calmly reassuring the child as she approached. With arms outstretched she seized the boy and pulled him out. Together they crawled back to safety.
