Sgt. Réjean Paul-Hus, of the Drummondville Municipal Police, was not on duty on 18 April 1985 when he entered a bank about 11:00 a.m. He was one of the dozen clients waiting in line when a man brandishing a revolver entered, shouting and threatening the tellers with his gun. Fearing a hostage crisis involving an apparently unstable bandit, Sgt. Paul-Hus charged. After several long minutes of struggle, during which the revolver was aimed at his face several times, the policeman managed to immobilize and disarm his adversary. He then tried to arrest the criminal, using the confiscated weapon, but the bandit broke away and fled. The incident was brought to a close when the Sgt., shouting for the man to stop, fired a shot.
