At approximately 4 a.m. on December 10, 1986, three duck hunters were rescued from the icy waters near Mink Island, Halifax County, Nova Scotia when their boat capsized in the rough seas. After the men had been clinging to their overturned boat for about fifteen minutes, Peter Saunders, another hunter, arrived in his 4-metre boat and proceeded to pull the men onboard. The task proved formidable due to the high winds, the strong running tide and the weight of the men in their water- logged clothing, but Mr. Saunders, at the risk of capsizing himself, successfully rescued all three and took them to a nearby hunting camp where they were given dry clothes and hot drinks.
