On April 27, 1995, Terrance Rye saved a woman and her eighteen-month-old daughter from a fire in Kindersley, Saskatchewan. Alerted by the cries of his neighbour's two-year-old son, Mr. Rye rushed outside to the panicked boy and twice carried him a safe distance away from the burning trailer-home. Aware that someone was still inside, he returned to the trailer and opened the door just as the extreme heat blew out the kitchen window. He crawled through the intense black smoke until he located the unconscious neighbour lying on the floor. He grabbed the woman by the ankles and dragged her to the exit where another man helped pull her through the doorway. Once outside, they found a baby girl in her mother's lap. The baby escaped unhurt but the woman required treatment for burns and severe smoke inhalation.
