During the evening of June 15, 1987, Frédérik Ouimette, aged 15 at the time, risked his life to help a pilot whose plane had crashed and caught fire in Barnston, Quebec. With both legs trapped under the dashboard, the pilot was unable to get out of the aircraft. Ignoring the flames that had spread right into the cockpit and the danger of an explosion, Frédérik Ouimette ran towards the aircraft, and, pulling with all his strength, managed to free the pilot. A friend then helped him carry the victim to a safe place.
