On the morning of March 12, 1988, a woman was confronted in Toronto, Ontario by her estranged husband who was armed with a pistol. They struggled, but she was able to break free and run across the street towards a supermarket. He caught up with her at the store entrance, grabbed her again, wrestled her to the ground and shot her. Mr. Walter Moyseuik, who had witnessed the struggle from the entrance to another store, decided to intervene. Disregarding the danger to himself he approached the pair and succeeded in disarming the man.
