On March 11, 1988, in Kapuskasing, Ontario, Noël Guénette disarmed and immobilized a man threatening the life of a waitress. The man entered a restaurant, looked around as if searching for someone and was making his way toward the front of the room, when one of the patrons screamed that he had a gun. Mr. Guénette noticed that the man had raised a hunting rifle and was aiming it at a waitress while shouting that he was going to kill her. Mr. Guénette immediately lunged toward the armed man and hit him on the back of the head, knocking him to the floor. He jumped on the assailant, seized his gun and restrained the struggling man until police arrived.
