On November 16, 1990, near Listowel, Ontario, Kenneth Berfeltz and Roy Davis attempted to save the life of a six-year-old girl who had fallen from an unattended, moving car in a parking lot. Seeing the idling, driver-less vehicle suddenly go into reverse gear and run over the child, Mr. Davis raced to the car, but lost his grip on the door, slipped and was also run over by the out-of-control vehicle. Mr. Berfeltz rushed over, was knocked down by the open door, but was finally able to jump into the car and stop the engine. Tragically, the little girl died and Mr. Davis suffered serious injuries.
