On July 4, 1989, at Pleasant Point, Ontario, Grace Marilyn Nolan risked her life to prevent two women from being killed. After seeing a mentally unstable man break into his wife's cottage, Mrs. Nolan notified the police and rushed to the scene to discover the man's wife stumbling out of the cottage and covered in blood. Observing the man, who was armed with a knife and struggling with another woman outside, Mrs. Nolan picked up a lawn chair and advanced towards the man yelling at him to let the woman go and to drop the knife. Suddenly he released the woman, who had been stabbed, but Mrs. Nolan continued to advance, forcing him to back up across the property to the road where he finally threw down the knife and hurried away. Mrs. Nolan continued to pursue him and he was eventually apprehended by the police.
