On July 2, 1991, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Mr. Boath helped rescue two young men from the Red River. Seeing them being pulled by the current towards the nearby dam, Mr. Boath immediately jumped in to help. Losing sight of one victim, he was able to grab the other and, because the rushing water prevented him from heading for shore, pulled him to a concrete abutment. While they clung to the structure, a boat approached and those aboard pulled all three men from the river.
