Medal of Bravery

On August 31, 1989, following an explosion in an Ottawa, Ontario apartment building, Lt. Terry Ardley and firefighters James Graves, Steve Hodgdon, Rudy Lindia and Gary Mulligan rescued a woman trapped in the building's basement. Under the threat of further natural gas explosions, Lt. Ardley saw to the safety of his crew as they installed wooden blocks in an attempt to support the crumbling structure overhead. While firefighter Lindia reassured the victim, firefighters Graves, Hodgdon and Mulligan carefully cleared a passageway through the debris. After approximately one hour and a half of painstaking work, the crew extricated the victim and brought her to safety.
