Medal of Bravery
On February 23, 1990, police Csts. Bellion and Stewart enabled several people to escape a hotel fire in Calgary, Alberta. Once on the fire floor, the constables assisted a man who was unable to find the stairwell exit because of the heavy smoke. They then dragged an unconscious victim into the stairwell and passed him to a bystander. Cst. Stewart activated a fire hose and directed it at the flames at the end of the hall while Cst. Bellion searched the rooms, guiding several people to the exit. Cst. Stewart directed several disoriented people from the upper floors to the exit and carried a wheelchair user down the stairs to safety. Csts. Bellion and Stewart left the fire area only after the fire department arrived.
