On August 4, 1993, Mr. Schweighardt rescued a co-worker from their burning tractor trailer after a car crashed into it head on, near Rosetown, Saskatchewan. On impact, shifting materials in the trailer punctured two gas cans, igniting a fire. Although Mr. Schweighardt had a broken left ankle and left hand, he managed to pull his co-worker, whose clothing was on fire, out of the driver's side. Before he could bring him to safety, Mr. Schweighardt suffered burns to his hands as the result of extinguishing the flames from his co-worker's clothes.
