Symbolism

The green stripe indicates the geological features known as the Greenstone Belt, and it also resembles the geographical shape of the Municipality. The gold stripe on it recalls the gold found within the landscape, the foundation of the area’s early economy. The white indicates the snow that covers the region for much of the year.

Symbolism

The moose is a local animal known for its strength and resilience. The miner’s pick indicates the original importance of mining in the region’s economy.

Two grey wolves proper each gorged with a collar Vert pendent therefrom a pomme, that to the dexter charged with a railway wheel, that to the sinister with a fish Or, both standing on a rocky mound proper set with pine branches Vert above barry wavy Argent and Azure;

Symbolism

The wolves are local animals already in use as identifying symbols of the area. The green discs allude to the name Greenstone, and the symbols on them indicate the past importance of the railways and the present importance of sport and commercial fishing in the area. The compartment refers to the Canadian Shield, the local forestry industry and the many lakes in the Municipality.
