Arms of L'Association des Savoie Inc.BlazonGules between a cross Argent in dexter chief the Star of Acadie, in sinister chief an ancient plow, in dexter base a Jerusalem artichoke flower (Helianthus tuberus) stemmed and leaved, in sinister base a fleur-de-lys all Or; SymbolismThe red colour and the white cross are taken from the arms of Savoy, which was ceded to France by the Treaty of Turin in 1860. The yellow star recalls the Acadian roots of the Savoie family, and the fleur-de-lis honours the French ancestry of its members. The plough represents the ploughman occupation of François Savoie, the first ancestor in Acadia. The Jerusalem artichoke flower illustrates the meeting of the Old World with the New, and the adaptation of the pioneer settlers to their new environment. |
