Blazon

Chequy Argent and Gules on a chief Argent a lion passant triple queued and holding in the dexter paw three maple leaves conjoined on one stem Gules;

Symbolism

Red and white are the colours of Canada. The lion refers to Mr. Tinlin’s English and Scottish ancestry, and the three maple leaves indicate his Canadian heritage and his three sons, a theme repeated in the three tails of the lion. The chequy pattern is a pun on the name of the family’s cottage in the Rideau Valley, Chequers.
