Gold represents the agricultural riches of Saskatchewan, where Mr. Kushwaha spent a large part of his childhood. The saffron shade of red alludes to India, where his family is from, and of which he has many significant childhood memories. The dark blue portion represents the sky, an all-encompassing element that covers the entire globe, reflecting the international scope of his career. The stars illustrate his lifelong passion for mathematics and science. The zigzag line represents mountains and, by extension, Mr. Kushwaha’s love of mountaineering and sports in general. The sun refers to his surname, as his family claims descent from the mythical Suryavansh rulers (roughly translated as “Sun dynasty”).
