Badge of the Port Moody Police DepartmentBlazonThe shield of the Arms of the City of Port Moody (Argent a fess bretessed Sable charged with two barrulets Or, in chief three Douglas fir trees Vert and in base a clipper ship under full sail Azure) within an annulus Argent edged and inscribed COURAGE INTEGRITY SERVICE in letters Azure, all within a wreath of maple leaves Or issuant from a dogwood flower, the whole ensigned by the Royal Crown proper and resting on a scroll Argent edged and inscribed PORT MOODY POLICE DEPARTMENT in letters Azure; SymbolismThe Department’s badge follows the pattern used by municipal police services in Canada. At the centre is the shield of arms of the City of Port Moody originally granted by the Lord Lyon King of Arms in 1988. The arms of the City feature symbols honouring Port Moody’s heritage, the Canadian Pacific Railway and early shipping and forestry in the 19th century. The Royal Crown symbolizes the fact that the Department assists in the administration of the Crown’s justice, while the maple leaves and dogwood flower are references to Canada and to British Columbia. |
