The column, which has a supporting function, alludes to the unit’s name. It represents jurisdiction of the unit on both sides of the Ottawa River, symbolized by the blue bar. The column also suggests a bridge between the two municipalities of Ottawa and Gatineau. The blue further evokes the Rideau Canal, epitomizing the construction heritage of the region. |
