Symbolism

Purple, often used for joint operations or units, indicates that the School trains members from across the Canadian Armed Forces. White stands for beginnings (as in a “blank page”), and gold for higher achievements, highlighting its training range of basic to advanced levels. The concentric circles evoke a target and represent the school’s offerings in speciality areas, targeting being an example. The little owl is an attribute of the Greek goddess Athena and symbolizes intelligence and knowledge. The arrow is an attribute of Artemis, the Greek goddess featured on the badge of the Canadian Forces Intelligence Group, of which the School is a part. It alludes to hunting and, by extension, to the seeking of information. The compass rose is taken from the badge of the Intelligence Branch and highlights the School’s association with it. It is a symbol of guidance and a reminder of the international scope of the Branch.
