Vol. VIII, p. 32
Badge of the Canadian Forces School of Military IntelligenceBlazonA golpe charged with a little owl displayed grasping in its claws an arrow fesswise Or ensigned by a compass rose all within a border Argent and enclosed by the Colleges and Schools Badge Frame (two torches enflamed, in base a sprig of three maple leaves surmounted by a scroll Or inscribed with the Motto in letters Sable, in chief the Royal Crown proper); SymbolismPurple, often used for joint operations or units, indicates that the School trains members from across the Canadian Armed Forces. White stands for beginnings (as in a “blank page”), and gold for higher achievements, highlighting its training range of basic to advanced levels. The concentric circles evoke a target and represent the school’s offerings in speciality areas, targeting being an example. The little owl is an attribute of the Greek goddess Athena and symbolizes intelligence and knowledge. The arrow is an attribute of Artemis, the Greek goddess featured on the badge of the Canadian Forces Intelligence Group, of which the School is a part. It alludes to hunting and, by extension, to the seeking of information. The compass rose is taken from the badge of the Intelligence Branch and highlights the School’s association with it. It is a symbol of guidance and a reminder of the international scope of the Branch. |
MottoBlazonERUDIENS VENATOREM; SymbolismThis Latin phrase meaning “Training the hunter” echoes the motto “Hunter Collector” of the Canadian Forces Intelligence Group, under which the school operates. It highlights the mission of the School to train those who seek and gather information. |
