Arms of Nady Ahmed el-GuebalyBlazonPer chevron Gules and Sable a chevron cotised between in chief an ibis’s head and in base a lotus flower Argent; SymbolismRed and white are the colours of Canada, which along with black are also the colours of the flag of Egypt, honouring Dr. el-Guebaly’s heritage. The black colour also honours his spouse, whose surname is Black. The chevron shape represents a mountain and is a canting reference to Dr. el-Guebaly’s name, which is derived from the Arabic word djebal, meaning “mountain”. The multiple chevrons also represent the Rocky Mountains near Dr. el-Guebaly’s residence in Calgary. The triangular shape also alludes to the Nile delta, and honours his father, who was a recipient of Egypt’s Order of the Nile. The two smaller chevrons represent Dr. el-Guebaly’s two daughters. The ibis’s head stands in for the ancient Egyptian god Thoth, the god of wisdom, medicine and science, who was depicted with an ibis’s head. It thus represents Dr. el-Guebaly’s career as a physician, psychiatrist and academic. The lotus flower is a symbol of Egypt. |
CrestBlazonA lotus flower Argent its pod Gules seeded, issuant from a coronet flory Or; SymbolismThe colours and lotus flower repeat the symbolism of the Arms. The golden colour of the coronet and the lotus seeds is also found in the flag of Egypt. The fleur-de-lis of the coronet refer to Dr. el-Guebaly’s French heritage through his mother. |
