The coronets represent descent from a Loyalist settler who had served in the American Revolution. The sheaf of barley is an agrarian symbol of the many generations of Silverthorns who were landowners. |
CrestBlazonIssuant from a garb of barley fesswise Or, a demi cougar Gules holding in its dexter paw a thorn branch Argent; SymbolismThe sheaf of barley continues a theme of the Arms. The thorn is a canting reference to the name. The cougar was chosen as a suitable Canadian animal representing strength and determination. |
