The pattern conveys the idea of rotation, a reference to Mr. Cowan’s having lived and worked in many locations during his Canadian military service and airline employment. |

The Loyalist military coronet honours Mr. Cowan’s descent from his United Empire Loyalist ancestor, Captain John Walden Meyers (1745-1821), who fought with the Loyalist Rangers during the American Revolutionary War. |
