Blazon

Azure the entrance portal of the former Scarborough High School Argent;

Symbolism

The main symbol is the entranceway from the old Scarborough High School building, the predecessor institution of R. H. King Academy, erected in 1922. Except for the portal, this building was demolished in 1976. The portal has long been used as a symbol of the school.

Issuant from a circlet Or the upper rim set with hazelnuts alternating with trillium flowers proper, a demi lion Or holding between its paws a mortarboard cap Azure;

Symbolism

The coronet is indicative of an educational body, set with the provincial flower and hazelnuts, a symbol of wisdom and knowledge. The lion is the name of the school teams. As it is the king of beasts, it makes a reference to the name of the school, which had been re-named in honour of the first principal, Reginald H. King.

Symbolism

This is a Latin translation of the school’s English motto, dating from 1989: “We care, we strive, we serve.”

On a representation of the Scarborough Bluffs proper rising from barry wavy Argent and Azure, two lions rampant Or each gorged with a collar compony Azure, Sable, and Vert, and grasping a torch Sable enflamed Or;

Symbolism

he lions, furthering the symbolism of the crest, have collars of the current and past school colours, and they hold the torch of learning in the original colours of the school. They stand on the Scarborough Bluffs, which are located near the school, and after which the school’s yearbook takes its name.
