Symbolism
The three diagonal stripes are a feature of other arms used by Biron and Byron families. Blue was the favourite colour of Normand Biron, Laurent’s father. The ermine spot (hermine in French) recalls their ancestor, Pierre Biron, who came from Saint-Hermine, Poitou, France, and settled in Quebec City in 1648.

The sea lion refers to the sea. It represents both strength and protection, and symbolizes the late Normand Biron’s service as an officer with the Royal Canadian Navy as well as his charitable work. The gold disc symbolizes a coin and refers to his profession as a chartered accountant. The maple leaves and fleurs-de-lis are symbols of Canada and Quebec.
