Arms of St. George’s Anglican Church (St. Catharines)BlazonQuarterly Vert and Azure, a cross Gules fimbriated Argent, in the dexter canton a Catherine wheel Argent; SymbolismThe red cross is the symbol of St. George, the parish’s patron. Combined with the blue background, it also alludes to the Royal Union Flag and thus the origins of the parish as a congregation of United Empire Loyalist settlers in 1792. The green refers to the coat of arms of the Diocese of Niagara and the arms and flag of the city of St. Catharines. The Catherine wheel is the instrument of martyrdom of St. Catherine, and thus alludes to the name of the city. |
