Arms of Robert David RedmileBlazonGules on a fess between three cushions Or, three escallops Gules; SymbolismThe red colour alludes to the name Redmile. The cushions are symbolic of authority, and for Bishop Redmile the three of them create a reference to the authority of scripture, tradition, and inspired reason in Christian teaching. The scallop shells pay tribute to Bishop Redmile’s mother’s family name, Schell, and to St. James the Apostle, whose attribute is a scallop shell. St. James is the patron saint of the Diocese of Richmond in the Christian Episcopal Church of Canada, of which Bishop Redmile is the bishop. |
MottoBlazonIN GOD IS ALL MY STRENGTH; SymbolismThis phrase is based on II Samuel 22:33, “God is my strength and power”. |
Badge of Robert David RedmileBlazonTwo gloves in saltire Or embellished with Métis beadwork proper; SymbolismThe gloves are a traditional part of a bishop’s vesture: here they use Métis beadwork as a reference to Bishop Redmile’s maternal Métis ancestry. In addition, paternal ancestors of his were glove merchants from France who immigrated to England in the 17th century and who manufactured gloves in Worcester for several generations. |
