Symbolism

Gold and blue are the official colours of Rideau Hall and represent the background of the new function. The vertical stripes evoke a waterfall or a curtain, and illustrate the origin of the name “Rideau” (curtain), which is the name the first French explorers in the 17th century gave to the falls at the mouth of the Rideau River.
