In the chief, red is the colour of love, God’s love for man – a love that is so strong that God sent His only Son to be sacrificed for our redemption. The paschal lamb is the symbol of the resurrected Christ, conqueror of death. In the middle, white is the colour of pure clarity and truth. The band with the tongues of fires symbolizes the Holy Spirit sent to believers by the glorified Christ, who sits at the right hand of the Father. The white band crosses a blue background, evoking the ideas and values that are separate from earthly matters and rise up towards Heaven. The open book represents Holy Scripture, which reveals the Word of God, and the anchor represents eternal life. The book and the anchor, symbols of the path to salvation, are both yellow, a noble colour that represents faith, the most important virtue.
